Introduction :

The University of Texas at San Antonio serves the San Antonio metropolitan area and South Texas through programs and services accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. UTSA has over 32,000 students enrolled in more than 150 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs.

In 2009, UTSA was recognized as one of the state’s emerging research universities, the first step in becoming Tier One in Texas. Tier One universities are known for outstanding research, quality education and generating major economic contributions to the region.

UTSA is well on its way to achieving Tier One status. Focusing on research, academic excellence and international reach, UTSA is attracting top talent and partnering with local, regional and state organizations. A Tier One UTSA will further help San Antonio fulfill its vision to become a viable player in the global market, strengthening the economy of the city, region and state.

The University of Texas at San Antonio ranks No. 9 in the nation in the number of undergraduate degrees awarded to Hispanics, according to 2019 Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine rankings.

The university continues to make great strides in its five areas of research and academic excellence: health, energy and the environment, security, sustainability, and human and social development. To that end, the university partners with a variety of local research organizations and maintains research collaborations across the nation and abroad.

The university provides access and opportunity for large numbers of historically underserved students. Nearly 45 percent of UTSA's students will be the first in their family to graduate college with a bachelor's degree or higher.
